Objet d'art - The shorebirds of Point Reyes and their eggs.

I made this book that's not a book in response to the fabulous art books on display at the Codex symposium.

I'm not sure where the idea came from but I've always been drawn to birds' eggs. And Point Reyes is a captivating place - with the added possibility that Sir Francis Drake anchored in the bay.

Inside there are egg reproductions of the featured birds, and a reproduction of an old map of the San Francisco Bay showing the huge wetlands, now reduced by over 90%.

WITH APOLOGIES TO ANDY WARHOHL

I feel really bad about this, but what with Warhol prints going for billions, his style seemed appropriate to the 2014 Christmas "paintings".

I used Photoshop to make screens, and Illustrator to simulate screen printing. In some cases (e.g. Marius "Che" Cannard) it's a straightforward steal, in others it is a collaboration.

Book Marked

book project by tom whitworth
I was inspired by the artists' books on display at the California Antiquarian Book Fair in San Francisco earlier this year, (Thank you, Stephen at Chanticleer Books for the passes.) and I've thrown myself into bookmaking.

My first project is a collection of shorebirds' eggs in a box-style book with painted interior and accompanying illustrated booklets. Kind of complicated to explain, but I think it will be interesting. I've finished the paper mache eggs. Next up: The Box.
